After our Cajun crawfish boil excursion, I was inspired to try my hand at making homemade jambalaya. Roy particularly loves jambalaya; apparently he had it for the first time as a teenager in Minneapolis at a Hooters, of all places. He was excited for us to cook it because he hadnt had it in quite a long time.
We consulted Allrecipes, of course, for the best crowd-sourced and crowd-approved jambalaya recipe that would fit with our kitchen tools and ingredients, and ended up using. We added mushroom (a favorite of mine) and okra (another favorite of Roys). It ended up being super delicious, with Roy wolfing it down in minutes. Unfortunately, he ate it so fast that I didnt get to take a great picture, but heres what it looked like right after I finished making it, still in the wok. (Recipe called for a dutch oven or large pot, but we dont have the former and sauteing anything in the latter is asking for disaster. Trust me, I ruined 2 pots that way already. So we looked to our trusty wok, which can handle anything. Apparently you can even cook steak in it.)
As a bonus, I got to use these cute new nesting chicken-themed prep bowls that I got from (where else?) HomeGoods. I know I promised Roy no more kitschy knick-knacks, but even he couldnt say no to these.
